One thing to remember that most people don’t consider is to keep in mind the size of your toothbrush in comparison to the size of your mouth. Your toothbrush should fit comfortably in both your mouth and hand as you handle it. Soft bristles are also healthier for your teeth, gums, and overall effectiveness and work best to get the job done. If the bristles are too hard on your toothbrush, you could be wearing down tooth enamel.
You will want to brush at least twice a day. While you brush, time yourself for two minutes and use gentle strokes to clean your teeth. It is important to reach each of your teeth in the front, in the back, and where possible, along the sides reaching to the back. This will ward off plaque and bacteria that could lead to cavities. It is also important to also clean your tongue to remove harmful bacteria that could cause bad breath.
Beverages like diet sodas, coffee, fruit juices, and even energy drinks have acid in them that weaken or soften tooth enamel. This is dangerous because you could damage your teeth over time. If you want to keep drinking these beverages, please wait at least 20 minutes before brushing so your saliva can remineralize the enamel before you brush your teeth.
