What is Dental Care For Seniors?

August 25, 2015

Here at North Dallas Denture Center, we are able to handle dental care for seniors. How is this different than care for others? Some senior patients require specialized care that is mindful of the individual and their health concerns.

Seniors deal with many oral health issues that we are able to take care of in our office. Dr. Roe uses a gentle approach and works with the patients with the utmost care.

Some of the oral health problems seniors deal with can include the following.

Root and Tooth Decay

Tooth and root decay is caused by exposure to acid. As we grow older, the gum line starts to recede. When the gum line recedes, it causes the root to be exposed.

The more of the root and enamel that is exposed, the more damage acid can do. An older person will need a crown to protect the tooth from further decay.

Loss of Teeth

The leading cause of tooth loss is gum disease. Many people deal with the loss of teeth for this reason. As the disease progresses, it will cause more of your teeth to fall out.

Dentures are often used to replace teeth due to gum disease. Depending on bone stability and gum health, implants can be used sometimes. Dr. Jason Roe is able to determine what the best treatment plan is for each of his patients.

Uneven Jawbone

Teeth play a role in bone structure. When teeth have been missing for a long period of time, the bone will sag in the place of the missing teeth. This is why it is important to have your oral health taken care of on a regular basis.

With proper oral health, you have a better chance at keeping tooth decay at bay. When you have good oral health, it affects your overall health as well. It is important to make sure you are getting the care you need.

Dry Mouth

Many medications can cause dry mouth in people. When your mouth is dry, it can be unpleasant. Dry mouth also leads to bad breath. We can give suggestions of how to deal with the discomfort of dry mouth.

Dr. Roe takes pleasure in helping those that come into his office to get the dental care in Dallas they need. He is able to work on seniors as well as all adults.
