When they meet with Dr. Roe, he will explain to them a treatment plan that will restore their teeth. Dental crowns are a part of the plan if the patient is in need of covering a tooth.
Why Is a Crown Needed?
There are several reasons that we may consider putting a dental crown on one or more of your teeth. Some of these reasons can include:
- Whiten teeth that are discolored
- Keep weakened teeth from breaking
- In place of fillings
- Cover over teeth that have had a root canal
- Used to attach a dental bridge to
- Restore teeth that have fractured
These are a few of the reasons that Dr. Roe may consider using dental crowns as part of your treatment plan. He will discuss with in full what he plans to do when restoring your mouth.
What Are Crowns Made From?
We custom make all of the crowns that go into our patient’s mouths. This type of prosthetic can be made from:
- Zirconia
- Zirconia that has a porcelain overlay
- Yellow and white gold
- Porcelain
- Metal with a porcelain overlay
- Resin
- Stainless steel
Each material is used for different reasons. When you meet with Dr. Roe for an appointment, he will discuss the options and advise you on which is best to go with.
All of the crowns that come out of our office are custom made to fit your mouth properly. The prosthetic is made to blend in naturally with your smile.
Where is a Dental Crown Placed?
The crown is placed directly over top of your damaged tooth or a dental implant. Depending on the reason for this procedure will determine where it will be placed. It is molded to fit into your mouth perfectly.
How Long Does a Crown Last?
This is a permanent solution to your oral health care. Crowns are not meant to be removed unless there is a health reason to do so.
On occasion, this prosthetic can become loose or fall out, in which case, we will make the adjustments needed.
Cleaning Suggestions
Taking care of your dental crown is the same as taking care of your natural teeth. You need to brush and floss your teeth at least two times per day. Often time, a crown can become loose on account of poor gum health or other oral health concerns.
Also, you need to have regular cleanings take place. During your office visits, Dr. Roe will check on the crown and let you know if there are any concerns.
