It’s Time to Replace Your Lost Teeth with Dental Implants

October 19, 2016

Have you lost one or more of your teeth? If so, there is no need to worry. Whether you lost them because of tooth decay, gum disease, or oral trauma, Dr. Jason Roe at Pro Dental Dallas can replace those missing teeth with dental implants.

Dental implants are strong tooth-replacement options that can fill the gap in your mouth and provide sturdy as well as permanent results. This is possible because a dental implant replaces both your tooth and its roots. Once the implant is placed in your mouth, you can have a complete and stunning smile.

The process involved in placing a dental implant can be lengthy and a bit invasive, but it’s worth it.

First, Dr. Roe will examine your mouth and take a few X-rays. This ensures that dental implants are right for you. Then, if they will indeed help you, Dr. Roe will refer you to an oral surgeon who will place the dental implant.

The oral surgeon will create a small pathway in your underlying jawbone and will fill that pathway with a titanium screw. This will act as the tooth root. Titanium is the preferred metal because it can integrate with your bone over time. When the screw fuses to the bone, it will create an abutment.

Next, your dentist, Dr. Roe, will install a standard dental crown over the titanium post. In order to do so, he will make impressions of the abutment and the surrounding teeth and will send those impressions to a dental lab. The lab technicians will create a porcelain, gold, or base metal alloy crown that is perfect for you. Once it’s created, Dr. Roe will secure it over the titanium abutment, which will give you your new-and-improved tooth. With the proper care and cleaning, your new tooth can last a lifetime.
