Find Out if You are Brushing Your Teeth Correctly

May 7, 2015

Many people think because they are brushing their teeth every day, twice a day, that their teeth are healthy. Yet, if you are not using the correct methods, or not using floss with it, you could be causing damage to your teeth. That is why our team here at Pro Dental Dallas in Dallas, Texas, is happy to give you some important tips, so you know if you are brushing your teeth correctly.

During a busy day, we understand that it might be hard to stand there for a length of time to brush your teeth. However, according to the American Dental Association, they recommend brushing your teeth for two minutes, twice a day. That is two minutes every time you brush your teeth. This will help keep your teeth thoroughly clean.

Toothbrush care is also important for your oral health. A good toothbrush should have soft bristles and fit easily in your mouth. Remember to change your toothbrush every three to four months, or when your bristles begin to fray. Bacteria can dwell and live on these bristles, so keeping your toothbrush clean can help keep your teeth clean.

When it comes to the act of brushing, remember to brush softly. If you brush too hard, you are damaging your tooth enamel and harming your teeth. Remember to use short strokes at about a forty-five-degree angle to your gums. This will do a better job at cleaning all around your tooth.
