Why Did My Denture Break?
It’s not uncommon for your denture to break, crack, or chip at some point. Many of our denture wearing patients come in to have their dental appliance adjusted or repaired.
Some of the reasons it can break include:
- Wearing it to bed and biting on it in your sleep.
- A pet gets ahold of it and chews on it.
- It’s worn out over time from use.
- You drop it in the sink or on the floor.
- It doesn’t fit well and you hit it too hard while chewing.
- The bottom and top arch aren’t aligned correctly, causing too much pressure when chewing.
Can It Be Repaired?
Many times we can repair broken or cracked dentures. One of our prosthodontists will look at it and determine if it is salvageable. Otherwise, he can make a new one that will fit you well.
*Avoid gluing your dental appliance back together. This can keep us from being able to fix it and could cost you a new denture.

We have an in-office lab where we make and fix dental appliances. Many times, we are able to make the adjustments or repairs the same day you come in. If it is a severe break or damage, we may need to send it out to one of our local labs. When that happens, we usually get it back within a few days.
