What are Dental Bridges?
Just as a bridge connects two piers together, a dental bridge connects two teeth together by using an additional tooth in the middle. A bridge is an option when replacing a missing tooth. This type of dental bridge can be used to replace multiple missing teeth. Its only limitation is the length of span and the health and strength of the abutment teeth.
When one or multiple teeth are lost, only three main options exist to replace the missing teeth: a dental implant, a partial denture, or a dental bridge. Sometimes a patient’s medical health or dental circumstances remove a dental implant from the list of options. At that point, if a patient doesn’t want to wear a partial denture, your dentist may recommend a dental bridge as the best available option. Contact us about how much dental bridge costs today.
What Are Dental Crowns?
A patient may also present with a missing tooth with crowns on the adjacent teeth flanking the area where the missing tooth is. In this case, a bridge is a good option because both adjacent teeth are already prepared to receive a bridge.
Commonly Asked Questions About Dental Bridges
Dr. Roe sits down with all of our patients and spends the time they need to get their questions answered. Here are a few commonly asked questions about dental bridges.
How Many Teeth Can Be in a Bridge?
A dental bridge can have as many teeth as needed to replace missing teeth in the mouth. It is common for them to have anywhere from 2-4 teeth. A bridge can replace teeth that are adjacent to each other as well as spread throughout the top or bottom arch.
How Long Does a Dental Bridge Last?
Just like your natural teeth, a prosthetic in the mouth can wear out. A dental bridge can last between 5-15 years depending on how you care for it. However, if your bridge breaks, we can repair it.
Are Dental Bridges Permanent?
A bridge is designed to be fixed into your mouth and not removed like a denture. It may wear out and need to be replaced after several years of use, but it is a fixed solution.
Does a Dental Bridge Feel Natural?
Yes, a dental crown is designed to look and feel like your natural teeth. Dr. Roe handcrafts dental bridges that fit into your mouth perfectly. The tooth color used for the crowns will match your natural tooth color.
How Long After Extraction Can I Get a Bridge?
In many cases, a bridge can be placed right after an extraction. We make sure that our patients walk out with teeth, whether it is a temporary or permanent solution.
Does Food Get Stuck Under a Dental Bridge?
There is a space under dental bridges, which can allow food to get stuck. It’s important to floss or use threaders to clean the bridge. Also, regular dental checkups are necessary to make sure that decay is not occurring. Early prevention is key to oral health.
What do I do If I’m Having Bridge Problems?
If you are experiencing problems with your bridge, be sure to contact our office. We will do an exam and determine what’s going on.
